He has published more than 20 novels, as well as story books and novels for children. He has been awarded with several prizes recognizing his work: the International Diana de Novela Prize (1990), the "Juan de ka Cabada" Prize for Children's Literature (1995), the Monterrey National Literature Prize (1997), the Mazatlán Literature Prize (2012). The author is known for being one of the Mexican writers with the most storytelling imagination. In Alfaguara Infantil y Juvenil he has also published The Crazy Oppossum, The Adventures of Chicken Dog, You Don't Exist, The Day They Outlawed School, and A Bicycle for Crocodile.
